I know this doesn't help, but mine has been doing it too for the last week or so. It is making me absolutely bonkers. You are not alone.

For me when I ask my Google Home and Nest Hub Max "play music", they play "music response" by The Chemical Brothers. They started doing this last Friday.

Hi folks,

Thanks for posting in the community! Sorry to hear about this situation y'all getting of your Nest speakers giving the wrong results when you ask to play music. No worries, help is here! Let's try to perform a Factory reset Google Nest or Home speakers or displays.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Axel.

Hi there. Thanks for that, but I've tried a factory reset and it didn't work I'm afraid. Perhaps the others on this thread with the similar issue will have better luck.

Was there an automatic software update last week that may have caused this? I have this issue on my Home speaker and my Nest Hub Max, but not my Pixel phone.

Factory reset didn't work. Seems to be a server side issue

Most likely a result of the artist suing Google for not playing their album

Try this phrase  "play music I like"

I tried this last night - I even crossed my fingers, did it work? Nope.

"Hey google, play music I like"
"Ok, playing 90s country music on YouTube Music" wth? 😂 I have never listened to 90s country music before, someone at Google is having a laugh.

My Nest Hub Max is currently an expensive clock in my kitchen just now, so frustrating!

Doubtful tbh

its still doing it. Playing anything playlist related seems poor

I finally did a search to see if I was alone with Madonna Do You Love Me playing every single time I ask Google to play some music.  Frustrating as hell but at least I'm not alone.  My speaker groups stopped working a few days ago and I've been unsuccessful reestablishing them.  All speakers (9 of them) were showing up in Google Home but only 3 available to create a group yesterday.  Today only 1.   7 wouldn't play any music to include casting.   The Display however will happily still blast Madonna.

I removed one of the speakers and tried to add it back to the network.  The Google Home app spins in circles from add a device, searching, back to add a device.  It can't even find a Google Speaker.  The last thing I want to do is factory reset everything and start over.  I have serious concerns it will come back up.  Not to mention I had to do this a few months ago for similar issues (minus the Madonna thing).

Google Wifi Pro with 2 Points, 9 speakers, 5 cameras, doorbell, 3 cell phones and watch.  I'm getting close to giving up completely with Google after repeated issues.  I had no problems for years and kept investing into upgrades and expanding so this is not what I expect after investing heavily into the Google ecosystem.

I'm beginning to think that whoever developed or tested their software changes has left their test data in the release code. These songs are so random - its The Chemical Brothers' "Music Response" for me.

I've power cycled the system several times over the past week or so but last night seemed to do the trick.  Unplugged the Nest Wifi Pro for a minute, plugged it back in and restored some features.  I was able add back in the speaker I removed as a test.  I could see all of the devices and create speaker groups once again. However, when asking to play music over the speaker groups either nothing would happen or it would only play on the display (1 device vs 8 devices).  And yes, it played Madonna.  I could however cast to the devices from my phone.  Not 100% but it's a start.

casting is absolutely fine for me,

My nest has been playing Madonna when I ask it 'to play music'. This has been happening for the last 2 weeks. Seems to be a glitch at googles end. I can't seem to find anything to fix this.

Still no fix for me either.  The speaker group is there with 8 speakers.  When I ask Google to play music on speaker group X, "Okay Playing Music...on speaker group X", it only plays on the display and only plays Madonna.  I can however go onto my phone and cast to group with no issues.  It's definitely software related issues on Google's end.

Back to square one.   Only 1 speaker shows up available to cast.  Speaker group is gone.  Voice command is Madonna.

Google needs to get their act together and figure this out.

Well my speaker has for some reason fixed itself. I did absolutely nothing. Maybe Google is listening?
