My Nest doorbell looks terrible. I thought it was a protective coating on it (like a screen protector) but it’s not that at all. I did some searching and found this is a common issue? What’s the fix?

Hi @kjstech
There isn't a fix, that I am aware of. Some other Community members contacted support but pretty much all I can suggest for this.

All you can do is contact Google and if it in warranty (IE less than 1 year old) they will most likely replace it.

To add to JillG and EmptyNester's advice, Google typically doesn't offer a replacement if it's no longer under warranty, unfortunately. I have seen a number of users workaround this using things such as silicone cases/covers available on Amazon and other online retailers.

I contacted Google so we’ll see what they say. I had to turn the indoor chime off to stop the WIRED (yes I said WIRED) doorbell from rebooting. The indoor chime only worked for the first year and a half. Come to find out on this forum that via false advertising, even the WIRED doorbell has an internal battery, which negates the entire reason why I installed a WIRED version in the first place. Nope, no super capacitor inside to keep the electronics on while the chime circuit closes.
So if Google doesn’t replace, I’m just going to go with a different brand most likely.
If they do replace, I’ll renew Nest Aware. It’s up to Google if they want my recurring revenue or not. Balls now in their court!

Google said its normal wear and tear and since its out of warranty there is nothing they can do. Oh well that seals it. Google doesn't want my money on Nest Aware subscriptions. I would have been brand loyal but I'll just go with a different vendor.
I know its out of warranty, but on Reddit many people were getting replacements anyway. The fact that the chime has to be turned off so it doesn't reboot makes it not very good anyway. I'd say Alexa's success rate of announcing when "someone's at the door" is less than 25%. You have to have your phone out and looking at it to see the push notification when the doorbell button is pushed.

@kjstech I agree with you on this. It is hard to be brand loyal when a company is so not customer loyal. And with Google it goes beyond just the cosmetic issue with the door bell you are running into. They refuse to sell even the simplest replacement parts such as power adapters, mounting hardware or cables for their products. They leave you to fend for your self trying to find 3rd party components on Amazon.

Hello,
They did reach out to me and we are going to do an advanced replacement.
Because of this kind gesture, I will maintain a Nest Aware subscription and be a loyal Google customer. It’s in good faith that the company stands by its products.
Thank you for escalating to the proper team.
